MYGEROS REFUGE TO TIMIOS STAYROS PEAK OF PSILORITIS
Nikos Kazantzakis from the "Reference to Greco", for the top
of Psiloritis:
... A boat with 3 masts was Crete, with its three high mountain peaks,
The White Mountains, the Psiloritis, the Dichti, and sails through the foams.
A sea monster was, a mermaid, with large breasts,
lying in the waves and shining. I saw clearly, inside
in the morning sun, her face, her hands, her legs, her tail,
the upright breasts ... I got a lot of joys in my life,
I cant complaint …but this… to see Crete on the waves……..
Psiloritis...
...is one of three major mountain ranges on the island of Crete, and holds the highest peak - Mt. Ida-Timios stayros (2456m).
This route which we recommend is the path of the well known as “psiloriti’s strata”( famous walkway of Psiloritis)
The total vertical gain for the round trip is about 806 m of pure beauty, cretan nature, fresh air and aerial and panoramic views. The mountain hike to Psiloritis is beautiful and very challenging! On the summit of Mt. Ida, you will find the Holy Cross (Timios Stavros) chapel, built in stone. From the top of the highest summit of Crete, enjoy the fabulous view and the landscape of whole Crete, which is standing below your feet. After that who of you wouldn't feel like a god?

Kavousi-Havgas gorge-Azores Minoan Settlement -Mesonas Gorge-Kastro- Memorial Azores Olive
This route which we recommend is one of the most exciting hikes in eastern Crete and without doubt we will access the most impressive part of the Sitian Mountains .At the eastern side of Kavoussi we follow the way which leads to the archaeological excavations (Azoria site), after the steep and jaw-dropping Xavgas gorge. There, we start entering the amazing gorge of Mesonas, where the path is uphill to its top. If we access it in spring, fresh running water streams in the channel and would be our chanting company. The path climbs up to the bluff, steep and breathtaking sides of the cliff and offers to us fabulous views to the gorge, to the surrounding mountains and to the bay of Agios Nikolaos. After the exit of the gorge we will see the magnificent Capsas and Kastro(archaeological settlement)peaks standing like giants. The view is unlimited to the bay of Agios Nikolaos. The last surprise of our hiking route will be memorial Azores Olive, a natural monument and the most ancient olive in the world. In 2004 it was decided that the first winner of the Women’s Marathon in the Olympic Games in Athens would be crowned with branches from this olive tree.Come with us!! Feel the magic and relive the history of the Greek and Cretan culture and civilization.
